After delays, the Hill Country Charity Ball delivers

COVID-19 played a large part in the delays, yet on the last night of July the community turned out to benefit the Hill Country Youth Ranch

After delays and uncertainty, the 34th Hill Country Charity Ball finally presented the biggest party in Kerr County.

The ball, delayed by more than a year by the coronavirus pandemic, was triumphant in a Rio de Janeiro-themed gala that drew more than 600 people to the Hill Country Youth Event Center. The big winner on the night? The Hill Country Youth Ranch, which received a record donation from the ball

Allison Bueche, president of the ball, said she believed the ball would top a $100,000 donation to fix an aging community center for the Ingram-based foster care school and home.

"I can't even put it into words what it means," said Krystle Ramsey, the Hill Country Youth Ranch executive director. "To have this type of support show up for us!"

From men in tuxedos to women in gowns, the fashion-forward, yet delayed, ball proved to be the biggest in the 35-year history of the event. Bueche had worried about vendors, guests, her board and the pandemic during the year of a delay. Her fears disappeared Saturday night, as the lively crowd enjoyed dinner, samba dancing and music.

"Proud,'' Bueche said when asked how she felt. "I'm very excited. We raised a lot of money for Hill Country Youth Ranch."
