Another day, another slow crawl upward for Peterson Regional Medical Center. The Kerrville hospital reported 23 hospitalizations on Wednesday, including eight in the intensive care unit.

While the COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state have slowly waned, Peterson's have slowly risen due to many unvaccinated people in Kerrville and the surrounding counties.

On Wednesday, Peterson said 10 people had tested positive for the virus — the lowest daily number in weeks. While Texas reported more than 14,000 new cases on Wednesday, it was down from the previous week.

Hospitalizations continued to fall incrementally, with 11,554 admitted to Texas hospitals. About 30% of these patients are in ICUs — a number that has held steady for weeks. About 75% of ICU patients are on ventilators.

The Texas Department of State Health Services estimates that more than 275 people have active infections in Kerr County.
