On the evening of July 24, an alleged drunk driver forever changed a family on Fredericksburg Road. Police said a suspected drunk driver hit the Maughan family head-on. Kayla Maughan, the mother of the two children in the vehicle, died at the scene. Josh Maughan, Kayla's husband and father of the two children, was the driver of their car suffered severe injuries that have required many surgeries and continued care, including physical therapy. Kaly Maughan, 3, suffered two broken legs, requiring multiple surgeries. Landon Maughan, 2, only physically suffered minor scratches. Kayla Maughan's mother, Beverly, cares for the children. The benefit offers food, auction items, raffles, a cornhole tournament, and live music, with all proceeds going to the family.

The nonprofit Hill Country Gala, Inc., was created to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The organization's board voted to expand to include local veteran nonprofits, and the event will be a new and exciting format.
